The Journey of a Hotmess Life

Thanks for joining me!

Picture this, you log onto Facebook to catch up on all the drama that is life, and you see a Buzzfeed quiz, “What kind of mom are you?” Naturally you go to take it because let’s face it, we all want to belong to some group. In today’s society, we have “boy mom,” “girl mom,” “hot mess mom,” “crunchy mom,” strict, not strict enough, so on and so forth. If you are like me, you kinda fit into all the categories.

Motherhood is hard enough, why do we even need these damn quizzes to tell us how we already feel, which is “ you are barely holding it together.”

Yep that’s right, don’t even try to deny it, because let’s face it, you are probably reading this while using the bathroom, listening to the sound of screaming kids on the other side. It’s ok mama! Take a split second to just breath. Now go ahead and wipe that baby spit up off the same shirt you’ve worn three days in a row, put your hair back into that messy bun you wear so well, and hike up those leggings that you refuse to throw away even though they clearly have holes.

Look at yourself in the mirror and say it with me,

“ I am a great mother!”

Ok, now shout it, because I can’t hear you over the screaming children. There you go, you ARE a great mother. Don’t let of those “put together” moms try to fool you. We both know they don’t have their shit together either, they just hide it better.

Now on to me and the purpose of the blog. I am one of those moms that never quite fits into a “momagory.” You see, I’m a boy mom, a girl mom, a hot mess mom, a breastfeeding mom, cloth diapering mom, stay at home mom, part time work (I bring my kids with) mom, and an Autism mom. I wear a lot of hats, and I don’t even look good in hats.

I hear all the time “I don’t know how you do it,” or better yet, “how do you keep it all together?” Here is my secret, so listen close…I am loosing my shit! I am passionate about being an advocate for my babies, so they are the ones that drive me (let’s not forget coffee and wine).

So I created this blog to be a place to vent, but also, and more importantly, be a place where other mamas like me can see that they aren’t the only ones who struggle. I want to inspire other moms to know that they are doing a great job no matter what they are going through.

On my blog you will read about the life of being an autism parent. The amount of therapy sessions, melt downs, sensory overloads, and how it has affected my marriage and myself personally. It won’t all be about autism though, there will be lots of cheer mom posts, wine posts, coffee posts, and overall “you can do it” posts. I’m not the craftiest person out there, so the “how-to” posts will be limited (unless it’s how to open a wine bottle without a wine opener…I’ve got you covered). Instead, my “how-to” posts will be about how to: “float when you feel like you’re sinking,” how to: “help a child (autistic or not) get through a melt down or sensory overload,” or how to: “cloth diaper in the 21st century.” Additionally I will post tips and tricks for  breastfeeding if that’s you thing.

So I hope you enjoy this blog. Share it with your friends, your moms, your grandmas. Hell, share it with that annoying neighbor whom you suspect is secretly judging everything you do with your kids. Leave lots of comments, friend me on Facebook, and remember we are all in this together.

You are a great mom, and this life is indeed a Hotmess
